Calas de Mallorca is a charming seaside resort located on the eastern coast of the Spanish Island of Mallorca. I booked this destination on a whim when a budget trip came up and I’m so glad I did! From picturesque bays, and crystal clear waters to walkways that look something straight out of Game of Thrones, this small resort has plenty to offer! If you’re looking for a bit of peace and relaxation, this one is for you! In this guide I will share with you the very best things to do in Calas de Mallorca!

Location and Background
Situated in the municipality of Manacor, Calas De Mallorca is renowned for its picturesque coves, known locally as “calas,” which are surrounded by rugged cliffs and lush pine forests. The town is conveniently located approximately 70 kilometers from Palma de Mallorca, the island’s capital, making it easily accessible for visitors seeking a tranquil retreat by the sea.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
The weather in Calas De Mallorca is quintessentially Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The peak tourist season typically spans from June to August when the sun shines brightly, and temperatures soar, creating the perfect conditions for beach lounging and water activities. For those looking to avoid the crowds, the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn offer pleasant weather for exploring the town’s scenic trails and sampling local cuisine without the hustle and bustle of peak tourist traffic. I visited in late September and this was perfect for me. The sea water was still a perfect swimming temperature and yet the beaches weren’t overcrowded with tourists. The town itself did feel a little quiet, with few people in the bars and restaurants but this suited me fine! If you’re after a bit more hustle and bustle, I’d recommend the peak season.
Beaches and Bays
Cala Antena

Cala Antena, is a secluded cove surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush pine forests. Far from the crowds, this hidden gem offers peace and tranquility, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing day by the sea. You can lounge on the soft sands, take a leisurely swim in the crystal-clear waters, or explore the rocky shoreline and hidden caves that dot the coastline. There is also a small beach bar that serves various drinks and cocktails on the beach. Be prepared that there are some very steep stairs to navigate to get down to the cove or to get back up, so go easy on the mojtios!
Cala Domingos

Cala Domingos is a larger beach with plenty of space for lounging and swimming. Cala Domingos offers typical beach amenities such as sun loungers, umbrellas and and beachside cafes offering snacks, icecream and drinks. The enclosed bay makes Cala Domingos a great place to swim. On my visit, the beach was perfectly clean with fine sand and the water was beautifully blue. We chose to just lay down towels as opposed to renting loungers.
Cala Varques

Tucked away along Mallorca’s rugged coast, Cala Varques offers a secluded beach escape. Accessible only by foot or boat, this hidden cove boasts pristine waters, soft sands, and unspoiled surroundings. Surrounded by rugged cliffs and lush greenery, it’s an ideal spot for snorkeling, cave exploration, and scenic hikes along the coast. Cala Varques provides a tranquil sanctuary where you can unwind amidst the calming sound of waves and the warmth of the Mediterranean sun.
Scenic Walkway

There is a scenic walkway that wraps its way around the coastline. We began our walk at Cala Domingos and followed the trail along, we found some interesting bays, perfect photo opportunities and a fabulous cocktail bar!
Family Friendly Activities

In Calas de Mallorca there are a number of family friendly activities such as various mini golf courses, arcades and some activity centres with small rides for kids to enjoy. Okay, so I may be nearly 30 and was travelling without kids, but that didn’t stop me missing out on the fun! Air-hockey is for all ages right?!
Porto Cristo

So by now, we’ve probably established that Calas De Mallorca is a small and relaxed resort so if you want to do a little more exploring I’d recommend taking the bus to Porto Cristo. Originally a traditional fishing village, Porto Cristo has evolved into a popular tourist destination while still retaining its authentic Mediterranean charm. The town’s name, which means “Port of Christ,” reflects its historical significance as a safe harbor for sailors. In the town there are beautiful beaches, a charming harbour, and plenty of seaside restaurants to enjoy some food and drinks!

The Porto Cristo market, typically held each Sunday offers a delightful shopping experience for visitors and locals alike, providing a vibrant atmosphere and a diverse array of goods. This open-air market features stalls selling a wide range of items, including locally produced handicrafts, artwork, clothing, accessories, fresh produce, and artisanal food products.
Coves Del Drach

Nearby to Porto Cristo are the Drach Caves. The Coves del Drac, or Caves of Drach, is a must-visit attraction near Porto Cristo on the eastern coast of Mallorca. These captivating limestone caves showcase a stunning underground world of natural wonders, including intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations, vast chambers, and one of the largest underground lakes in the world, Lake Martel. Whilst there you are taken on a guided tour through the caves, marveling at the breathtaking beauty illuminated by atmospheric lighting. The highlight of the tour comes towards the end where you are treated to a live concert by 5 musicians that perform in a boat on the lake. This was a truly magical experience, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced! Once the concert has ended, you can leave the caves via a rowboat.
For me, Calas De Mallorca was the ultimate relaxing mediterranean escape. So pack your bags, grab your sunscreen, and get ready for an unforgettable getaway in Calas De Mallorca!
