The promenade along the cliff edge near the cathedral is an excellent place to view the sunset. Good sunset viewpoints can get very crowded particularly during peak season, so to ensure you get a great spot, consider booking a cliffside restaurant during sunset. You will pay a premium for prime positions but it’s worth it if you want to enjoy a meal with a stunning caldera sunset view!

Naoussa Restaurant is a popular spot for authentic Greek cuisine. Located in the heart of Fira, this restaurant offers a variety of traditional dishes, including moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh seafood. I was recommended this place by so many people before I went but unfortunately, I couldn’t get a table! You will need to book well in advance to secure a spot.

We had a fabulous meal at Nikki. The restaurant served great food with an incredible view of the sunset. We sat outside and were given blankets when the breeze became a little chilly. I’d definitely recommend visiting at sunset time as the view was just stunning!

Eat at the Local Takeaways

There is also an abundance of takeaway shops offering all kinds of food from traditional Greek gyros, Italian pizzas, and pasta to Chinese or Thai cuisines. We went to an excellent place called Figo that serves pasta and cocktails!

Practical Tips for Visiting Fira, Santorini

Best Time to Visit Fira

The best time to visit Fira is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). During these times, the weather is pleasant, and the crowds are smaller compared to the peak summer months. We chose the end of May and the weather was lovely and the streets weren’t overcrowded.

How to Get to Fira

Fira is easily accessible by ferry from other Greek islands and by flights from Athens. Once on the island, you can take a taxi, or bus, or rent a car to reach Fira from anywhere else on the island. We stayed in Kamari and to get to Fira by bus took around 20 minutes and cost 2 euro.

Getting Around Fira

Fira is a walkable town, and most attractions are within easy reach on foot. Bear in mind on the cliffside, the streets are multi-level so there can be a lot of stairs to climb! To explore other parts of Santorini, consider renting a car, a buggy, or using the local bus service.

Fira, Santorini, is a captivating destination that I would return to time and time again. Fira is a place that will leave you with unforgettable memories. I’d certainly recommend that you plan your visit to this enchanting town and experience the magic of Santorini for yourself!
